Introduction: The severity score of metabolic syndro-me (MSSS) is a new rule of clinical prediction for dia-gnosis and therapy and uses the components available as sex, age, race, blood pressure, abdominal circumfe-rence, high density lipoprotein, triglyceride and glyce-mia.
Objective: A study was conducted on children with me-tabolic syndrome (MetS), with pre-metabolic syndro-me (pre- MetS) and obese but metabolically healthy (OMH) to study feasibility and MSSS implementation.
Methods: We studied 86 eligible participants from the Cardiology Clinic. The MSSS values were analyzed along with anamnestic data, demographic, anthropo-metric and laboratory, instrumental data. The diagno-sis was established according to the criteria of the Inter-national Federation of Diabetes (IDF, 2007). MSSS was developed online on Metabolic Syndrome Severity Cal-culator. The ethics committee of the scientific research approved the study protocol, the participants signed informed consent for participation.
Results: We studied data from 86 participants (avera-ge age 14.5±2.5 years). MSSS was higher in MetS pati-ents (n=32; 37.21%, including 2 children with Type 2 diabetes mellitus) than in those with pre- MetS (n=45, 53.32%) and OMH (n=9; 10.47%) respectively 63.5% vs. 57.2% vs. 36.3%, and Z score 0.57 vs. 0.5 vs. 0.36 (p<0.05).
Conclusions: The study of MSSS indicated the feasibi-lity and consistency of its implementation among chil-dren with metabolic syndrome and/or metabolic pre-syndrome, metabolically healthy obese.
