Introduction: Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is an invalidating disease with unfavorable prevalence and evolution numerically, increasing compared to the last decades of the 20th century. Currently, there is no ideal biomarker for PAD in terms of risk stratification and/ or monitoring of the therapeutic response. The present study compares the diagnostic value of „classical“ (fi-brinogen, C-reactive protein, ESR) biomarkers versus newer biomarkers (Neopterin, beta2-microglobulin, Cistatin C) in order to optimize early detection of this atherosclerotic pathology.
Methods: Current data present a part of the PhD the-sis and reflect the preliminary results. The prospective study included 216 known or newly diagnosed PAD patients admitted between January 2017 and February
2018 in the 2nd Department of Internal Medicine and the Department of Cardiology of the Emergency Clini-cal Hospital „Sf. Spiridon“, Iași. Patients with documen-ted neuropsychiatric disorders, with known associated neoplastic pathology or acute inflammatory patholo-gies over the past 30 days were excluded.
Results: The group included 176 (81.49%) men and 40 (18.51%) women, with an average age of 65.23±9.44 years, of which 76.7% were smokers, 98.4% had cardi-ovascular antecedents and 92.5% – dyslipidemia. The final statistical data of the PhD thesis are processing and will be presented at the National Congress of Car-diology 2018.
Conclusions: The fragment of the PhD study will de-monstrate the role of „classic“ and „new“ inflammatory biomarkers – individually and in combination – in the early PAD stage diagnosis.
