Introduction: Atrial fibrillation, in an altered clinical and biological status of congestive heart failure, linked also with various degree of anemia, corresponds to an abyssal therapeutic process. In search of a good prognosis, we associate these three entities, to find the most suitable therapy and to assess the prognosis. Methods: All patients with atrial fibrillation, conges-tive heart failure and anemia seen at the Emergency County Hospital of Craiova during a one year period, were enrolled in a cohort study, with a total of 357. Each patient underwent a comprehensive EKG and echocardiography study, and a comprehensive exami-nation of the following specific biological parameters: haemoglobin and haematocrit.
Results: From those patiens, 65% were males. 80% were diagnosed with atrial fibrillation of various aeti-ology. 16% of them had as a pathophysiological trigger congestive heart failure itself, that happened prior to fibrillation. In 4%, the association is concurrent, due to different aetiology. All patients had various degrees of anemia.
Conclusions: Atrial fibrillation, of various aetiology, linked with congestive heart failure, chronologically and in terms of aetiology, occurring simultaneously or independently, and also associated with anemia, cor-responds to a poor prognosis, that might be improved through a sensible and specific therapy of the three pillars.
