Introduction: Endothelial function, with a major role in vascular integrity, may be unblanced by a number of metabolic, hemodynamic, inflammatory, immune or oxidative conditions; early prevention and detecti-on, are important in the prophylaxis, monitoring and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Purpose: Investigation of early endothelial injury risk factors in young people with cardiac arrhythmias, and dyslipidemic disorders.
Methods: The study was conducted on 40 young sub-jects, aged 20-45 years, divided into two groups, as follows: group I- patients with dyslipidaemia and ar-rhythmic cardiac disorders and group II – control, healthy subjects. Patients were investigated in order to establish cardiac arrhythmia diagnosis and also, the lipid profile, including the level of LDL-oxidized (LDLox), anti-LDLox antibodies and evaluation of oxidative stress parameters – total antioxidant activity (TAS).
Results: Vascular endothelial aggression may be asses-sed since early stages, thourgh qualitative modificati-ons of LDL, LDL-oxidized and the generation of an-ti-LDL-oxidized antibodies as reaction to it, with the possibility of initiating endothelial immune responses. The occurrence of lipid oxidation-LDLox is favored by the presence of an oxidative stress, as measured by a decrease in total antioxidant activity in patients with dyslipidemia at 4.88 mmol/L (58%) related to contro-ls (TAS 8.35 mmol/L). In the dyslipidemic group, TAS was decreased, LDLox increased (1.79 μg/mL vs. 0.87 μg/ mL in control: 206%) and also, the presence of an-tiLDLox antibodies (353 mU/mL vs. control with 201 mU/mL: 176%) was identified.
Conclusions: 1. Important parameters in assessing early endothelial dysfunction are: increased LDL-oxi-dation, the occurrence of anti-LDL-oxidized antibo-dies in high-levels, and a decrease of total antioxidant activity. 2. A high level of antiLDLox antibodies creates the premises of further endothelial immune aggression, with the initiation of inflammatory immune processes at subendothelial level. 3. In the presence of oxidative stress, LDL can be oxidized, generating a secondary immune response. 4. Lipid and oxidative biomarkers are important in the risk of early endothelial dysfunc-tion.
